What is Individual Counselling?

Individual counselling is one-on-one counselling between a client and a trained therapist, in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

In individual counselling, the client expresses whatever comes into his/her mind. The therapist here knows how to take out more information from the client by making him comfortable enough to express his thoughts.

By doing so, the client is able to identify those aspects of their lives that they would like to change.

    How Fortitude's individual counselling help?

In individual counselling, a client talks about his/her feelings, thoughts and behaviours, as well as the things that are bothering them. For example, a person may be getting negative thoughts about self, that he is of no use, unworthy, or is suffering from low self-esteem for any specific reason.

Fortitude’s trained counsellor or therapist will assist the client in developing strategies that will help them in achieving their goals. This may include engaging the client in behavioral interventions, such as changing patterns of thinking, learning new skills, helping them changing the ways of self-expression and feelings.

Example, the client may be told to listen to music, go for a walk when they get negative feelings. This way they are able to divert their attention from negative feelings and thoughts. Our counsellor may also tell the client to write down they thoughts and feelings whenever they are feeling stressed or vulnerable. They may be given some homework to practice certain things outside of the counselling sessions.

How many counselling sessions are required?

It completely depends on the severity of the problem such as level of depression, trauma, grief, harassment, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, guilt, stress reactions or problems in living.

    Our Goal
